Sacramento Federal Building Child Care Center
The child care center, located on the campus of the Sacramento Federal Building campus, provides five separate play rooms for age groups from infants to preschoolers as well as defined areas for active and quiet activities, food prep, napping and toileting areas. Covered porches serve as a transition zone linking each play room to an outdoor play yard. The exterior environment was designed to provide opportunities for a variety of challenging, safe play areas appropriate for each age group.
Daylighting was maximized to bring controlled sunlight into all the rooms. Particular care went into the siting of the building in order to preserve existing mature trees and landscaping in order to be incorporated into the play yards and other landscaped areas surrounding the building. Other site improvements include a new cul-de-sac for short term parking, and landscaped areas around the building such as a patio adjacent to the staff training room.
